Building Capacity at Every Level
Improving teaching isn't the result of a single program or initiative. It requires deep expertise in classroom practice, instructional leadership, and the systems that sustain improvement over time — developed and refined alongside educators across the country.
Lots of factors went into having all schools in the district being Level 2 or better: having a common goal; having consistency among administrators and teachers; focusing on students and learning objectives; having mastery objectives and criteria for success. These were the same principles that were taught in RBT courses. |

How RBT's Expertise Has Grown
As education has evolved, so has RBT. A few milestones along the way:
- 1978 — The Skillful Teacher is published, establishing RBT's foundational knowledge base on teaching.
- 1990s — Partnership work expands into leadership and evaluation, including the long-running collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools.
- 2000s–2010s — Systemic improvement and data-use expertise are formalized as standalone areas of practice, alongside continued growth in teaching and leadership programs.
- Today — RBT's work spans teaching, leadership, and systems change in 47 states and 14 countries.
