Clarity: The One Question Quiz Script With RBT Analysis
This is a script with RBT analysis for the video: Clarity: "The One Question Quiz": Checking For Understanding: High School Mathematics
Mr. DeCraene uses the one question quiz to do three follow up checking activities. This is an important example of using a "checking" strategy as a hinge question. "What is the relation of the graph to the unit square?" If the students can answer that, they have an essential undertanding. The one-question quiz goes on for several minutes as he 1) circulates looking at student writing, 2) reminds several student that they have to write about the relationship between the two, 3) has students read their responses to each other in pairs, 4) has the students discuss what they saw in each others' answers, 5) revise their own if the want to and 5) participate in a total class discussion where the essential relationships are discussed.
Consider the following activities for application of this video's content:
After viewing this clip, see if your group members can list the steps one-by-one that Mr. DeCraene does after giving the directions for the one-question quiz. These are steps aiming to increase student understanding and to give him data on who has confusions about what.
