Clarity: Modeling Thinking Aloud: High School

Ms. Green, Latin teacher, describes the positive effects of using modeling thinking aloud with her students on scanning meter in Latin poetry.

Ms. McAlpin-Toney models the thinking aloud for how to create a thesis statement based on notes from original sources. They are asked to write a persuasive essay about this thesis explaining why Christianity spread in medieval Eurorpe.Teacher has students observe the steps she does in organizing notes and asks students to tell her what they notice. She records the steps for them to use to guide themselves in groups when they work on their own essays. Laura Cooper, RBT Consultant, debriefs with Teacher x about next steps in her own skill development with modeling thinking aloud.
