Classroom Climate: "Highlighting Things I Heard": Teaching Group Skills: High School Mathematics

While circulating as students do group work, Mr, Herrmann writes down things he hears students say to each other on his computer that is then displayed on the whiteboard. He stops the group work and comments on the things he is hearing. This clip shows a novel way to use technology and immediate feedback to teach students how to interact productively with peers in cooperative learning settings. Use it as a springboard for discussing how members of your group explicitly teach group skills.
