Planning & Assessment: Algebra Team Common Planning Time: Error Analysis and Re-teaching: High School Mathematics

A ninth-grade professional learning community shows how they developed a common formative assessment to get at students' thinking and then plan a re-teaching loop. This is their first year as a 9th grade algebra PLC. It's good they made up the common quiz. So they should get credit for that. But two members dominate the meeting. Also, they don't yet go into the "how" of re-teaching to overcome student misconceptions when they decide to do one-to-ones with their student. The "why" of why a minus time a minus is a plus would certainly be a worthy exploration rather than just having students memorize the rule.
